[21 day pause] day 13 – understanding

I may not see all that lies ahead, but I know it's going to be beautiful #NoLongerAshes #DontHaveToSeeItToBelieveIt

I don’t know about you – but, I’m the kind of person who *really* needs to understand things to comply.

In fact, when I had kids I made a point to always consider their requests to want to know “why”… because in my mind that leads to understanding… and, therefore, obedience.

Makes sense.
{right??!}

See, if you want me to do something? Just help me understand the ‘why’ and I have no problem 😉

Yeah. Well, that’s not quite how it has worked out with my children. {snort}
If you have children of your own…
or have been around young children at all…
you probably can relate to the fact that at around age 3 they start asking, “Why?”… and about everything.

As a frazzled mother of 3 children under the age of 5, I quickly realized that it was often more important that they simply learn to obey regardless of knowing the why.

That is probably worth repeating…

I quickly realized that it was often more important that they simply learn to obey regardless of knowing why.

It didn’t go unnoticed in my heart that I need to be responding to my Lord this way also.

Often, God doesn’t give me the why… It’s just not how He tends to work in my life.

He calls me to deeper waters where I simply can’t walk without Him.
He brings me to a place where I can’t see beyond my own fogI’m convinced it is to help me gain a better understanding though – not a better understanding of my circumstances; rather, a better understanding of HIM.

It isn’t about what I see – it’s all about fixing my eyes on Him who does see.

Being called where I don’t get the why answered helps me gain a better understanding. Not a better understanding of my circumstances, per se, but a better understanding of my King.

“Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.'” John 13:7

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

What’s your pause today?

    Yes! There have been many things in my life for which there is no “why”. Yet, God is still good, even in difficult and painful circumstances we can’t control. I have never walked more closely with him, not felt his presence and his love more than during those moments of pain and confusion. But I realized, it’s just that I needed him more, not that he had changed. He is always there loving me with the same intensity everyday!

    Children can teach us a lot. 🙂
