[21 day pause] day 5: rain
Although they say we didn’t hit our average rainfall in January up here in the Pacific Northwest, this last week sure seemed to have had it’s share!
When we lived in California, I use to love the rain. I was always the one sticking my head out the door to get my hair sopping wet… Or dancing in the back of my pickup truck with my best friend in highschool – doing the rain ‘happy-dance’ (whatever that was)…
Rain.
Now that I have lived in Oregon for fifteen years, rain doesn’t quite bring the same level of excitement.
Perhaps because we have it all. the. time.
My friends in other states are praying for rain… and I am taking it for granted.
Isn’t life funny that way?
You know, the grass is always greener on the other side… what we have we don’t want – and what we don’t want we have.
In my pause today… I was longing to read about my God’s relentless love.
That love that pursues over and over again.
That love that is simply there. all. the. time.
Like the rain in Oregon.
I stopped in the book of Hosea. The words on the page are underlined in my Bible… and I recall them from a song we use to sing in church – maybe you know it…
“So let us know, let us press on to know the Lord.
His going forth is as certain as the dawn;
And He will come to us like the rain,
Like the spring rain watering the earth.”
Hosea 6:3
Looking to pause… and know who my God is.
“Be still and know I am God.” Ps. 46:10
I hear those words again in Hosea…
“So let us know, let us press on to know the Lord.”
Let us know – that our God… our Lord…
He comes like the rain.
He loves like the rain.
It is as certain as the dawn.
all.
the.
time.
bringing refreshment… pause… rest…
