Wait… Remain… Abide…

A while back I was spending some time in John 15… Such a beautiful passage as it talks about the one true vine and the branches.

As I was looking for some related info online, I came across this article* that someone wrote about something they discovered.

They were reading Ps. 27:14… Here it is with vs 13,

“I would have despaired
unless I has seen the glory of
the Lord in the land of the living.
Wait on the Lord and let your
heart take courage.
Yes, wait on the Lord.”

As they were reading that in their study Bible, they noticed the wherever they saw the word “wait”, it was underlined…

So they studied them and discovered that the words wait in this passage do not mean to sit and do nothing until something comes/happens.

It isn’t being idle.

It does not mean wait like we would define it.

Instead it means something like to be interwoven / intertwined with… The word ‘wait’ means to REMAIN.

And, as I learned in a recent Bible study, to remain, means to abide.

John 15:5
“I am the vine,
you are the branches.
If you remain (abide) in me,
and I in you,
you will bear much fruit.
Apart from me, you can do nothing.”

Next time you come across the word ‘wait’ in you time in the Word, you might not be able to do a word study… But consider that it might not mean to wait like we think of waiting. In this context, it is a very active word – to remain or abide in Him.

“…Wait on
(Remain in or abide with)
the Lord.
Let your heart take courage.
Yes, wait on (remain in) Him.”
Ps. 27:14
