Nothing is wasted…
I remember as a little girl sitting with my family on Monday nights and watching Little House on the Prairie. I dreamed about living on the frontier in the pioneer days…
Surprisingly, I never read the Little House books when I was young. I’ve been making up for lost time though 😉 We love to read out loud to our kids at night. Even my thirteen year old son has a hard time going to sleep until we have had our reading time.
A few years ago we read Farmer Boy by Laura Ingles Wilder… it was our first Little House book and our whole family enjoyed it. The boys especially liked it because it was all about Almanzo and his family.
There is so much to learn from these books about living the life on the frontier… One thing that we all noticed was how nothing is wasted… ever. Every season seemed to be spent preparing for the next. In the winter time they would cut ice from the pond to store in order to keep things cool when the summer months hit. When they would slaughter a cow for meat, none was wasted. They would use every single part of it for their own survival… soap, candles… nothing was wasted.
Isn’t that a contrast to our society and culture today?
Recycling is a big ‘thing’… but, still we waste so much. Walk into a store and you can pretty much get your hands on anything disposable. We waste our food, we waste our supplies, we waste our time… if something breaks, we get a new one instead of fixing it. It is the culture we live in and it surrounds us.
So reading about a culture that cherishes and uses every thing so that nothing goes to waste was foreign to us and it provided great discussion with the kids.
Isn’t that how our God is?
Nothing is wasted…
He takes even ashes… and turns them into beauty.
He takes darkness… and brings in light.
He takes nothing… and creates.
Nothing is wasted…
I heard a beautiful song on the radio last week by Jason Gray called Nothing is Wasted and it spoke these truths to me.
“Nothing is wasted
In the hands of our Redeemer…”
“From the ruins
From the ashes
Beauty will rise
From the wreckage
From the darkness
Glory will shine…”
Sometimes we think that our trials are just to give us a hard time…
That we are just stuck in this world with random circumstances and difficulty coming our way.
Nothing is wasted in the hands of the Redeemer.
We wonder if our God really does care about the little details in our life that so deeply effect us.
Nothing is wasted in the hands of the Redeemer.
He is a BIG God and He uses everything together for good to those who love Him.
Nothing is wasted in the hands of the Redeemer.
“The hurt that broke your heart
And left you trembling in the dark
Feeling lost and alone
Will tell you hope’s a lie
But what if every tear you cry
Will seed the ground where joy will grow
And nothing is wasted
Nothing is wasted
In the hands of our Redeemer
Nothing is wasted
It’s from the deepest wounds
That beauty finds a place to bloom
And you will see before the end
That every broken piece is
Gathered in the heart of Jesus
And what’s lost will be found again”
