[21 day pause] day 4: covered
A few years ago I was reading through the New Testament in a year. I don’t know if it was because I was reading in the NIV for the first time or if I just hadn’t noticed before…
This absolutely blows me away.
In John chapter 17, after Jesus had washed His disciple’s feet and had His last supper with them… He went out into the night and prayed before He was arrested in the garden.
Did you know He prayed for you?
Jesus… Two thousand years ago – when He was on this earth… hours before He died, He prayed… for you.
Look at John 17:20-26
“My prayer is not for them [Jesus’ disciples] alone.
I pray also for those who will believe in me
through their message, that all of them may be
one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.
May they also be in us so that the world may believe
that you have sent me. I have given them the glory
that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—
I in them and you in me—so that they may be
brought to complete unity. Then the world will know
that you sent me and have loved them even as you
have loved me.
“Father, I want those you have given me to be with
me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you
have given me because you loved me before the
creation of the world.
“Righteous Father, though the world does not know
you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me.
I have made you known to them, and will continue
to make you known in order that the love you have for
me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”
John 17:20-26NIV
I don’t know about you, but when someone is praying for me, I kinda’ want to know what it is they are praying. Check out how Jesus prayed for YOU all those years ago…
That there would be unity among US…
That the world would look at US and believe in Jesus…
And, again – He prays that WE would be one…
That the world would know The Father…
That the Father’s love would be in US…
That the world would know His love.
There is something about this that is so personal, I just love it!
Our Savior covered me… YOU… in prayer – hours before He died for us.
What a beautiful Jesus we have.
In this pause.
In this being still and getting to know my God…
I am seeing a Father who loves deeply and longs for real relationship with me.
