[21 day pause] day 6: fog

#21daypause - God's ways are not our ways... #NoLongerAshes

Part of my pause today was rushing {ha! There’s an oxymoron} up to the top of the mountain we live on to take some pictures of the fog. There is just something about how the trees layer in the fog that I wanted to see if I could capture…

As we were driving up the hill the sky cleared up and the view was nothing like I have ever seen there.

We were on the mountain top overlooking a huge valley… this valley was filled with an ocean of fog. It was pretty impressive. You could literally see the fog rising like a tide coming in.

While I was watching the fog roll and the sun set, my mind wandered to all of our friends living down in this valley and their perspective in this same moment.

God's Glory on tour in the skies!! #NoLongerAshes

Here I was enjoying an incredible moment of beauty…
They had the same moment…
the same fog…
but, they couldn’t see it the way I was seeing it.

Visibility was probably 1/2 -1 mile under the blanket of fog. thick. dark. depressing.

In Proverbs 3:5-6 we are reminded to not “lean” on our own understanding… our own perspective…

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.”

It isn’t about what we see.
It is about getting to know our Lord and trusting what He promises.

See, just because you couldn’t see the sun from below the fog – doesn’t mean that it wasn’t there.
It was… and it was breathtaking.
Just like the work our God promises to do in our lives.
He promises to work everything together for good… even when it might not look like it to our own eyes.

My pause today reminded me that the ways of my King are not my own… They are so much better!

“I don’t think the way you think.
The way you work isn’t the way I work.”
God’s Decree.
“For as the sky soars high above earth,
so the way I work surpasses the way you work,
and the way I think is beyond the way you think.
Just as rain and snow descend from the skies
and don’t go back until they’ve watered the earth,
Doing their work of making things grow and
blossom, producing seed for farmers and food for
the hungry, So will the words that come out of
my mouth not come back empty-handed. They’ll
do the work I sent them to do, they’ll complete
the assignment I gave them.”
Isaiah 55:8

What is your pause today?
