This Mountain {of Laundry} Rises Higher

source: RealSimple
Maybe your mountain isn’t laundry…
Perhaps you are faced with a mountain of bills…
or special needs…
or hurt…
or what feels like mountains of failure…

Sometimes my rising mountain is a ‘big’ thing.

Other times, my rising mountain is the daily grind – day in, day out… picking up the house, feeding the children, getting ready for homeschool, working on my business, paying bills… they seem like little things some days – and other days are a daunting mountain that seems impossible.

Do you know what I mean?
What does your mountain look like?

The other day our family had been out and about running some errands. It had gotten kind of late and as we were heading home, We Won’t Be Shaken, by Building 429 came on. The windows were down and the volume was turned up and every one of us was belting it out…
{our poor neighbors! Ha!}

“Whatever will come my way
Through fire or pouring rain
We won’t be shaken
No we won’t be shaken
Whatever tomorrow brings
Together we’ll rise and sing
That we won’t be shaken”

It struck me how our family is on this crazy adventure where our mountain looks a lot like unemployment and yet we are all singing…

“Whatever tomorrow brings…
Together we’ll rise and sing
That we won’t be shaken!”

Then the thought snuck in…
What if I AM shaken?

Sometimes I want to crawl in bed and just stay there.
Sometimes I don’t want to face what the day brings.

“This mountain rises higher
This way seems so unclear”

When we feel the mountains rising around…
when we don’t know what to do…
when it seems chaotic and this world is spinning out of control…
It’s about CLAIMING TRUTH!

“This world has nothing for me
This life is not my own
I know You go before me and I am not alone
This mountain rises higher
The way seems so unclear
But I know that You go with me so I will never fear
I will trust in You.”

See, it’s really not about me being shaken…
but that HE WON’T BE SHAKEN. And my trust is IN HIM.

In Him, We won’t be shaken.
The rain can come…
The fire can burn…
The mountain can rise higher and higher…

But, my God?
He’s got this.

“Together we rise and sing…
We won’t be shaken!”

Jason Roy, the lead singer for Building 429 shared the story behind this song. He shared how they were a part of a benefit concert for the Sandy Hook families… They had been working on this song but hadn’t performed it yet. He said that they really felt led to sing this song that night… they knew they didn’t have answers for these families… so they shared what they did have – truth!

“My soul waits in silence for God only; From Him is my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.”
-Psalms 62:1-2

“You know my every longing
You’ve heard my every prayer
You’ve held me in my weakness
Cause You are always there
So I’ll stand in full surrender
It’s Your way and not my own
My mind is set on nothing less
Than You and You alone
I will not be moved”
