What if we forgot?

neverforget
I’ve seen the images before…
Twelve years later, the feelings they invoke are the same.

Pictures of September 11, 2001.

Many are posting “I Remember” as their facebook posts today. We all know exactly what they are referring to.

We remember the tragedy of that day.
We remember innocent lives lost.
We remember watching heroes step up to help the helpless… many losing their lives in the process.
We remember the stories of people turning to the One true God.
We remember.

We do remember, right?

What if we forgot?

How many times have we walked through the valley of death, watching our Lord walk along side us… Excited to give Him the glory of His everlasting goodness… only to forget a year later?

I think about the Israelites… over and over, God brought them through something big. HUGE. Yet, soon after, they forgot and questioned God’s care.

He brought them out of slavery in a miraculous way… parting the Red Sea for their escape. He demonstrated His unmatched power in caring for them… and in Deuteronomy 6:20-21 it says:

“In the future,
when your son asks you,
“What is the meaning of the stipulations,
decrees and laws the Lord our
God has commanded you?”
tell him:
“We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt,
but the Lord brought us out of Egypt
with a mighty hand…”

God tells the Israelites to tell their story.

We remember the ugly…
We remember where we have been…
Where we have come from when we share our story.

And, we remember what our Lord has done.
We remember how He brings people to Him to comfort in tragedy.
We remember His grace.
And we get to see the beautiful.

Our God has a story of redemption to tell…
and He wants to use YOU to tell it.

We are not made to be silent, we have to share our story.
His story.

We have to remember the ugly… and claim the beautiful story of redemption.
And we must never forget.
