Impressions
“These commandments that I give you today
are to be on your hearts.
Impress them on your children.
Talk about them when you sit at home
and when you walk along the road,
when you lie down and when you get up.”
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (NIV)
Sometimes, as parents we wait for just the right moment to unload a big prepared speech to our children about the Lord and how He works. We save up and build up thinking we are giving them this big gift (and truly, the truth shared with them is a gift!)… but, these verses tell us exactly how to share truth with our children. We are to IMPRESS them on our children…
We are to leave a trace – not burn a hole.
We aren’t suppose to drop a big boulder of truth over their heads…
We are to share with them in the little things…
“Talk about them [God’s commandments] when you sit at home…”
“Talk about them when you go out on a walk or hike…”
“Talk about them when you are tucking them in at night…”
“Talk about them when you are sharing breakfast…”
Throughout the day we are given little tidbits of time…
In the car on the way to the dentist…
Doing the dishes together…
During commercials…
When waiting in line somewhere…
You know what’s really cool?
This is how God talks with us.
