When Christmas Didn’t Need Saving

We were going through the different Christmas shows available to watch on TV…

I was surprised to see how many were about ‘Saving Christmas’

We found, “The Toy That Saved Christmas”
and,
“The Night They Saved Christmas”
“The Dog That Saved Christmas” {seriously}
“How Mrs. Claus Saved Christmas”
“How The Flinstones Saved Christmas” {ha!}
There is… “The Glo-Friends Save Christmas”
“Pete the Cat Saves Christmas”
or…
“Earnest Saves Christmas”

A quick google search will bring up over 500,000 results for “saved Christmas”…

seriously.

I don’t have to look at these movie titles to get a glimpse of how upside down our culture is about what Christmas is about.

For some crazy reason, we think Christmas needs saving.

We think that if we just planned better… if we got our shopping done earlier… maybe if we went to less parties – or more parties… or drew names so we didn’t spend so much… perhaps if we didn’t go into debt… or if only we had a job… then, Christmas would be saved!

I have some news…

It isn’t Christmas that needs saving.

It is us.

me.

you.

This tired, weary world is what needs saving…
This tired, weary me is what needs saving…

And, THAT is what Christmas is all about.

Christmas is God making a way to save us from our sin… our ugly.
It’s about Jesus coming and the hope of redemption that He brings.

It is about God being HERE, with us.

He came 2000 years ago to save the world – and He is here today…
living in the lives of His children…

Immanuel. God with us.

Thank you Lord that Christmas doesn’t need saving!
Thank you, Jesus, for coming to save ME.

My ugly need to be saved… becomes His beautiful story of incredibly real hope.
