Who said anything about safe?
” Loves like a hurricane,
I am the tree…
Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy.”
There is a song that has been playing quite a bit on the radio lately…
It starts by comparing our God’s love for us to a hurricane…
and I am a tree in this hurricane.
Later in the song, it compares God’s grace to the ocean… and I am the one sinking.
Am I the only one that thinks these associations are a bit paradoxical?
When I think of God’s love… I think of BIG.
I think of SAFE.
Unconditional.
When I think of God’s love…
the word ‘hurricane‘ certainly isn’t what comes to mind… let alone, the imagery of me being the tree pounded by the hurricane.
And, when I consider the amazing grace He has showered on me… An ocean is a great analogy… but, I never thought about sinking in this ocean.
Hurricane.
Sinking in the ocean.
As I was thinking of these words this artist has chosen to express our Father’s love and grace… the word DANGEROUS came to my mind.
All of a sudden the song made even more sense to me…
“Safe? Don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.” — Mr. Beaver, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by C.S.Lewis
My King is dangerous.
He isn’t safe.
But He is GOOD.
