Lurking Around the Table…

table-setting2A dear family friend suddenly passed away yesterday…

My dad wrote a beautiful tribute on Facebook where he shared his memories of sitting around the table sharing life with Ed. Ed’s oldest son, Pat, chimed in and shared the impact it had on him as a boy… “lurking for 10 minutes around the table” as these men talked.

What a beautiful legacy!

How easy it is to encourage the children to be involved in another activity that keeps them away from ‘the table’ when we are sitting around conversing with our own friends.

We don’t realize the impact we can have on our children when we invite them to ‘lurk’ for a few minutes…

to see what real life looks like…
to hear adults share struggles and truths…

You can’t make moments like these happen… but, you can create an environment that encourages it.

Our children are watching… and they are learning more about the Kingdom life than we may realize by what they see in us.

I am more convinced after reading Pat’s comments how important it is to invite our children to the table…
My parents did…
Pat’s parents did…
and now it is our turn to invite our own children to the table.

This is so true, and mirrors my own experience listening to my grandparents and parents talk at the table. Great reminder for me with my own kids.
