Who is writing your story?

typing-story
Have you ever been in a situation where you are praying for direction…
waiting…
and then you seem to get a glimpse of what looks like an answer?

I don’t know about you, but often…
this ‘glimpse’ tends to grow into a full-on plan as I think,
“OH! I see what you are doing Lord…
Here, let me help you by doing this,
that, and this other thing.”

I have no problem admitting it…
I’m a control freak.
I’m a bit of a perfectionist.
And I like to know where I am headed – while keeping in mind that I can change it to go in any other direction any time I choose.

Oh yes. That’s me.

Don’t get me wrong…
I claim no pride in desiring control.
I am simply a ‘do-er’ but that means I tend to plow ahead…
as if I was writing my story.

This morning I attended a conference that really struck a chord with me on this point. It was a side comment the speaker, Sandy Snavely, had made but it was anything but a whisper to me:

“Who is writing your story?”

I may desire at times to write my own story.
I might not appreciate the current plot line…
or this particular chapter…
but, I can’t see the finished product.

In Jeremiah 29, we are told that our God has a plan for our lives…
A plan… a story…
for HOPE.
for a FUTURE.

Jeremiah 29:11-13:
For I know the plans that I have for you,’
declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and
not for calamity to give you a future and
a hope. Then you will call upon Me and
come and pray to Me, and I will listen
to you. You will seek Me and find Me when
you search for Me with all your heart.”

That is a story I want to be a part of.

To surrender my own ideals knowing that mine are based on the little things of this world.

Oh yes!
I choose to let the author of creation write my story… a story of HOPE.
A story of REDEMPTION.

I choose to have my King who is not bound by the things of this world…
who truly thinks outside the box…
to write my story.

What about you?

Who is writing your story?

Very well said. We are only characters in God’s story. But what a privilege to have a part in His story.

Yes! Thank you Lillian… HIS-story… so beautiful. And, the more we share our part in HIS-story with each other, the more we get a glimpse of the entire thing. Like puzzle pieces coming together.
